6:16 pm - Politics and IR Books for sale

saltymcpepper
Hallo everyone.

I have a massive stack of Politics and IR textbooks I have accumulated over the past 4 years as an undergrad. All are in excellent condition (I'm a big book lover and have treated them well) with no markings or notes.

I've priced them based on whether or not a new edition has come out recently, and to some extent how much "like new" they are. If you want more than one I'm willing to negotiate a bulk discount.

Leave a comment if interested, and thanks for looking (Cross posted a few places so apologies if you see this more than once)

1:58 pm - Participants wanted!! Jogging!!

meaningrequired
Hello!

I am l student at Edinburgh University hoping to finish her PhD in the next year. If you are thinking about becoming more active over the beautiful summer months then please think about participating in my study.

If you chose to join in, you will be allocated to one of two groups. One group will request you attend a jogging group once a week. The other group requires you to try going for a jog on your own once a week.

Ideally you'll be a student, or at least free at 12:30pm on a Tuesday OR Thursday for the jogging group with JogScotland which starts at Teviot Place/outside McEwan Hall. I'd like everyone to start from the 23rd of June (which coincidently is my birthday).

You will complete a questionnaire before you start, after 5 weeks and after 10 weeks. After this time I would love to do some interviews to hear your opinions and thoughts!

Even if you go once to the group or out yourself, and hate it, or just can't seem to find the time to continue, I still want to hear from you. Your views are important to me!

So, if you're interested, or have any questions email me at julie.port@gmail.com

If you know anyone who might be interested or have friends that would also like to join in, please pass this link onto them!

From 9pm to 3am, Dropkick Murphys - 7 Merchant Street - will be hosting the 'Go Wild' jungle themed event. There are great drinks offers and prizes for fancy dress, and, best of all, you'll be doing your bit to help the volunteers help Operation Wallacea's conservation efforts around the world!

Pre-sale tickets are just £4, email opwalledinburgh@hotmail.co.uk if you're still interested in purchasing any. Don't worry, though, because you pay cheaply on the door as well.

10:42 am - Single room available in South Bridge Flat

aulait
Is anyone - by any chance - looking for a room? We're three Edinburgh students (philosophy, sociology and medicine respectively) currently searching for a new flatmate to join us in June '09.

Our two-storey flat is located right by O'Briens' Sandwich Bar and Blackwell's bookstore, and is barely five minutes away from the university (not to mention very near Princes Street and other amenities like the Pleasance gym). It has a kitchen, four bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a good security system, rapid Internet access and an electric shower.

The room available is bright and comfortable, and fully furnished with a double bed. Price-wise, it's definitely a steal (285 per month). Please leave a comment if you're interested and I'll be happy to give you more details.

Cheers!

I apologise in advance for being a tech idiot. Now that good old Athens is gone, is there any way to access JSTOR at home? It's a pain having to go to the library! Cheers.

3:19 pm - Saturday activities

seneska
On Saturday Edinburgh is holding a Doors Open Day. This means buildings usually not for public viewing are not only open, but free. Highlights (for me anyway) include:
  • Wemyss House
  • St Bernards Well
  • Scottish Storytelling Centre
  • Royal Society of Edinburgh
  • Royal Observatory
  • National Library of Scotland
  • Informatics Forum (the newest university building, only computer science researchers are allowed in at the moment)
  • Dovecot (once a public baths, now a tapestry gallery)
There is a website if you would like more information here: http://www.cockburnassociation.org.uk/default.asp?page=33 (It's pronounced Co-burn), and I would recommend that anyone in the area take a look to see if there's something that tickles their fancy.

I know it's not really a student event, but it is free. I think that's something we're all interested in. And it's probably a good way for Freshers to find out more about the city they've just moved to. (Any new Postgrads at the induction last week might remember the powerpoint with all the pretty pictures where it was mentioned. That why I looked into it.)

11:18 pm - Storage, marchmont and studentness

_ladyp_
Ok oh wise ones a couple of questions...

Can anyone recomend a storage company in Ed and how much did they charge?

Does anyone know if flats in Marchmont area come up any time of year other than right now (i.e There are few going fast just now in time for the next academic term but will there be any at all in say October)

Are there any flats in marchmont that don't have carpets and kitchen units that have been there, unwashed since the 70's. I have seen flats with good floors or nice kitchens but never the two combined :D

4:17 pm - Participants wanted! Please help!

I am a PhD student at Edinburgh University. If you are a student at Edinburgh University too, and you have a spare 20 minutes, I would really REALLY appreciate it if you could fill in my questionnaire. I am mostly interested in undergraduate responses but will appreciate any responses.

All Edinburgh University students will be entered into a prize draw for £20 (you must leave your email address).

If you're not a student but full of goodwill, I would love it if you filled out my questionnaire too! You'll just have to be creative when filling out the questions relating to university.

Please help this poor student, held captive in an office with no windows (except for a sky light) work in the heat of summer! Tell your friends! :)

Click HERE for the online questionnaire!
